Geez, no one else has thoughts about the MLB '08 season? I haven't been here forever and thought I'd see your predictions/comments but nothing!! Come on. Pick it up. Of course, predictions are the most overrated and, in some ways, most pointless thing you can do.

I love the unpredictability of MLB. The Orioles are actually playing good. The Tigers are awful early. The Kansas City Royals are playing sound fundamental simple baseball - and winning. I shouldn't even be surprised that the Athletics ...

From Hall of Fame broadcaster of the Reds, Marty Brennaman:

"This is the kind of thing, quite honestly, right now, that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose. Among all baseball fans, and I can't attest to the Yankees or Red Sox, because we don't see them with any degree of regularity unless it's inter-league play, but far and away the most obnoxious fans in baseball, in this league, are those who follow this team right here. Throwing 15 or 18 balls onto the field, there's absolutely ...

Yankees

Red Sox

Mets

Some people might scratch their head about the Mets but they're Yankees Jr. Obnoxious place to play, ownership that puts unnecessary pressure on players/coaches and a team that ESPN ass-kisses along with the Yankees, Red Sox, Duke basketball and pretty much any football team. I've got nothing against Duke or football but watch the preseason basketball games: Duke vs. South A&M Blind Nuns Tech State will be ...

Um...yeah I saw this coming in April.

I know the Rockies have been playing outstanding and with the exception of last year, the team with the longer layoff has historically done well in the World Series but I put it in the "highly unlikely" category for the Rockies to beat Boston. Boston just came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat a very solid Indians team and they have way more experience.

I hope the Rocks can find a way to win because that would no doubt make for a memorable ...

That is the Colorado Rockies payroll. It's 28th (out of 30) in the majors. What a rocktober for them. I hope they go all the way. Unbelievable how they're doing this, Holliday recently caught fire but a lot of the big hitters have been fairly silent lately. Everyone on the team contributes. It will be interesting to see how they play after a week layoff...

Anyway, it's good to see them get to their first World Series.

How bout those Dbacks fans? At the beginning of the game, it looked like a mid-season game with all the empty seats (won't be a problem in Denver) and then in the 7th it looks like Yankee Stadium with fans throwing things on the field. Talk about a fan base looking for an identity. But that's what you get when you win a World Series and the owner cleans house soon afterwards...it's similar ...

After the Game 1 loss, I was surprisingly fine. The Cubs had their chances, but lost to Brandon Webb. Game 2 I got pissed. Ted Lilly disappointed when we had relied on him so many times all year to get a win after a loss. He lost his cool after two innings with a 3-2 score. And it looked like the Cubs had accepted defeat. Tonight's loss was just bad. You could see it in their eyes that they had already decided the series was over. Looks like it's gonna be a pretty nice stadium. Great market in Washington. Gotta think that team is gonna have some success with all the things pulling their direction. The Orioles might be worried, especially if they continue their losing ways.

It beats the heck out of RFK Stadium...the place is OK for a football stadium but it's fairly ugly for baseball.

They've been playing pretty decent. Can't say they've been playing great but doesn't matter, they lead the division. Zambrano has blown his chance for the Cy Young (Jake Peavy's to lose) but he's come back around after his spat with the fans, the lineup is real solid, the bullpen is probably the weakest link right now.
Any baseball fans in the midwest know how much is riding on this series. A sweep by either team could completely demoralize the other. The Cardinals sit just 2.5 games out of first and 2 away from the Cubs. A sweep would probably end the Cardinals chances of really being able to take first. A sweep by the Cardinals would probably take the life out of the Cubs and before you know it, they finish 4th in the division.

Most likely, a sweep isn't going to happen, especially in a four game set. ...

Nope, not Barry Bonds' record-breaking home run but Rick Ankiel coming back from a pitching meltdown in the 2000 playoffs, turning himself into a hitter and in his first game back....he hits a HR.
He hit 2 yesterday and made an outstanding catch against the Dodgers.
Not just cos he's a Cardinal but this is one of the best sports stories of the year and it's pretty much agreed on by everyone unlike Bonds becoming the HR "champ". Interesting week in baseball.

In case you haven't figured it out, baseball is #1 for me, it's still the best sport, it's still the most unpredictable, etc. so with all these races going on now, it's pretty much the most exciting time of the year in sports. Here are some of my thoughts on the season so far, ala Larry King-style (random thoughts written in no order).

The NEW YORK YANKEES are only FOUR games behind the Red Sox now. Who would have said a month ago that this would be possible? That race is gonna be great ...

Holy Crap!!

I never knew this about Antonio Alfonseca, but apparently he has six fingers and six toes on both hands and both feet.

Here is a picture of his hand that I saw for the first time today.

Something like this I would need a heads up on or I would either A) totally freak out when I felt that little finger wiggle while I shook his hand. Or B) I would make an ass out of myself and embarass him by making a big deal about the extra finger and inspecting close up.

I was reading a blog on possible trade deadline moves and saw this line in one of the last paragraphs:

Quote:Or, as one Yankee official groaned recently, "In all of baseball, nobody gets less out of more than Kyle Farnsworth."

Kyle Farnsworth used to be a pitcher for the Cubs and while he was here he pretty much did what that Yankee official was talking about. He could throw a fastball that clocked at 100 mph consistently. But he couldn't put any movement of any kind on it ...

A-Rod on Juice?

According to Jose Canseco, he has some dirt on A-Rod.

Now, as much as I hate the Yankees and A-Rod especially, I have a hard time believing that Rod is on steroids. He's been consistent his entire career and his numbers haven't dropped since steroids became a huge deal in MLB.

If I had to take a WILD guess, and this is just my theory, I would say that Canseco is running low on "Juiced" money and just wants to get some more cash to afford that head reduction surgery.

I can't come back and not sing the praises of the A Braves, notwithstanding their 10-3 ass whupping last night. A slashed payroll, and mostly Georgia homegrown talent and they are still right there with the Mets who can't get their heads out of their asses on a good day. I went and saw the Braves on Sunday over the weekend, for anyone who doesn't know, they have two cornerstone guys who are two of the best young players out there in Jarrod Saltalamachia and Jeff Francoeur. The crowd went nuts ...
