Keep Your Fingers Crossed Empty

Browns Center, LeCharles Bentley, is having a physical in New York today to get clearance to re-join the Browns when they open camp later this week.

I'm not a big fan of his or anything like that, I was a fan of his story last year when he signed with the Browns and would like to see it work out for him. He is a Cleveland native whose life long dream was to play for his hometown team and he got his chance last year only to have tragedy strike on the first contact play in camp last year when he blew out his patella tendon. He needed reconstructive surgery to repair the tendon, a surgery that gave way to a staph infection that not only threatened his career, but his leg. After two more surgeries, four in all, Bentley is going to keep his leg and today's physical will tell him whether or not he will play for his hometown squad this year.

He still has to pass a team physical, but I think if he clears this hurdle it will only be a formality. So anyone out there who is a fan of great stories, keep your fingers crossed for LeCharles Bentley and hope he passes his physical today and his physical with the Browns so that he may play again.

Just read on ESPN.com that Bentley did in fact pass his physical with his surgeon and has been cleared to play for the Browns this year. He still has his physical with the team to pass, but the biggest hurdle has been passed and it looks like Bentley will be on the field for the Browns when they open camp later this week.

Now we just gotta keep our fingers crossed that he can play at the level he was when he got hurt last year. I have a soft spot for the Browns for some reason so I hope that he can and that the Browns can get it together enough for Romeo Crennel not to get fired at the end of the year.

I don't think WhoDey shares your soft spot for the Browns.

I have doubts about his health because after 4 surgeries on your leg, even one misstep or tweak can cause major damage.

That's why fingers need to be crossed.

But one school of thought is that when you blow out your knee, when it's healthy, it's stronger than it was before it was injured. Jerry Rice felt that way after he hurt his knee. But he also only weighed about 180 lbs. Bentley is listed at 310, nearly twice what Rice weighed. So we'll see.

And as far as Who Dey goes, I don't think she's worried about the Browns, not with the way the Bengals handled them last year.

I think it's going to take more than LeCharles Bentley to make the Browns ready to take down the Bengals. It's cool that he's cleared to play though. It's a great story, almost losing a leg and then being able to reclaim your career.

This will probably make him incredibly delicate though. Hopefully his knee will be able to withstand the impact of being on the field. I do want to see how he's going to hold up on the field.

Huh. That's pretty cool. I hadn't heard this story, or at least hadn't remembered it. Very hard not to root for someone like this... even if he were on a team that happened to be a real threat to your team. (even Bengals fans have a heart)
