you're going to have to drop gibbs out of the first tier. For a time he was, but in the present tense, there is no way he can be considered top tier. Remember, his success came in the pre-salary cap era.

That's a fair point Brian, but I'm basing this list on coaching prowess, not on player personnel. Compared to Jeff Fisher, for example, he has been more successful overall. However, Fisher typically does much more with the talent he has than does Reid. Reid's teams typically underachieve for their talent.

Supermanox, A fair point about Gibbs. In his defense, he did inherit a bad football team and is living with a meddling owner and a previous regime who caused significant long-term damage with poor salary cap decisions. If Gibbs' team performs under their talent level this year, I will probably agree with you and move him down.

His defense, at times, has been one of the most dominant in the league. So he does have some positive things going for him. Does he..and most coaches... do boobish things at times? No doubt. Dumping Leftwich when and how he did could probably have been handled differently. But it appears it was the right choice, regardless of the handling. Garrard has more upside for that team than the permanently injured Leftwich did. I much prefer the way he did it than the way Lovie Smith has handled the QB situation in Chi.

There is no better way to judge a team than consistency, and Jacksonville last year was perhaps the most inconsistent NFL I've seen in my lifetime. If the Jags had won the games they should have along with all the impressive wins they had, they would have been not only in the playoffs, but in with a bye and a force. Instead, they missed the playoffs altogether and changed QBs practically minutes before the season started. They then lost to Tennessee and barely managed a victory against Atlanta. True to Jack Del Rio form, he got them up for a road game against Denver, but do you really have any confidence in this team, despite the defensive talent?
