The KC Chiefs are starting to show the effects of two years under the clueless Herm Edwards. Edwards went into this season thinking Brody Croyle would be his starter. What kind of coach thinks that?

The San Diego Chargers will rue the day they hired Norv Turner. This is a classic case of the Peter Principle. He has been fortunate to be the OC behind very good head coaches and has done well in that role. But as a HC, he has failed miserably at Washington and Oakland. Those were bad teams that Norv did not show improvement under Norv's leadership. That Chargers team last night was the best team in the NFL last year for most of the season. Last night, it looked like an 8-8 team. I don't want to over-react to one week, but as the Turner effect begins to take hold, I expect we will see other blowouts like that in which SD is outcoached and outplayed. Somewhere, Marty is smiling.

Marty is always smiling :)

Can the KC situation be pinned on Edwards? The talent on that team seems to be lacking, and I'm not sure how much control Mr E has there.

I wish I could get inside the head of the man that not only thinks that 14-2 isn't good enough, but also that Norv Turner can improve on it. It's probably a confusing place, full of shiny distracting things.

What's "The Peter Principle"?

It wasn't about 14-2 not being good enough; that was all just a red herring. Marty's firing was all about A.J. Smith hating Marty, and finding any excuse to get rid of him. His brain was all about "I hate Marty! I'd rather deal with...[spins the Big Wheel of Head Coaching]...NORV TURNER than deal with Marty! Yeah, that's it!"

The Chargers will pay for getting rid of Marty with their record, but Smith won't regret what he did to get there.

The Bears are going to feel the effect of the other Turner. In the game against SD I kept thinking throw the ball when they were running. The game against KC I kept thinking run it and they'd throw it. Maybe it's genetic.

The Peter Principle: People rise to their level of incompetence.

SD could have possibly survived firing Marty had they not let Wade Phillips go to Dallas and the rest of the coaching staff leave. That was the biggest mistake their sissy boy GM made. You don't dump your entire coaching staff and expect to win the Super Bowl, I don't care if you do have LT on your team!

As for KC, that I believe is another GM messing up a team. They took forever to sign Holmes two years ago, repeat the same crap this year with Larry Johnson, dink around with Miami over a trade for Trent Green and do nothing to improve their team! They were lucky to make the playoffs last year. Herm Edwards thought he was getting a good team to coach and he was wrong.
