RAIDERS DISBANDED; LOS ANGELES GETS A TEAM

Thanks to the miracle of Madden '08 for the Xbox, the Oakland Raiders are no more.

Instead, the Los Angeles Pirates will begin play in 2007 in the AFC West. They're a team ran by the Sports Talk Undergound Network message board, of all things, with head coach Max playing the games.

"The Raiders suck," said Max. "Obviously. And I wanted to have a team where we were in a division with a challenge. Thus, here we are in the AFC West. Chargers? Broncos? They worry me a bit. Chiefs, not so much."

The Pirates are a team made up of salty veterans, hard-working rookies and everyone in between. They're all free agents - no good Oakland defense here - so the team's not going to be very good.

"What I plan on doing is asking the STUN message board for help with decisions, like who to take with our #1 draft pick, who to start at QB, stuff like that. That'll help, hopefully. They know what they're doing."

LA's roster consists of a few notable players: bad boy and former San Francisco wide receiver Antonio Bryant, clock killin' Corey Dillon, who came out of retirement to play for the Pirates, infamous kicker Mike Vanderjagt and outside linebacker Lavar Arrington to name a few.

Did you have to draft from only retired washed up players?

lol!

And was Mike Vanderjerk the only kicker on the board? He's so not good, and way too cocky for how not good he is.

Do we get the opportunity to tell you to set some of those guys on fire?

I love how many bad, old, past their prime guys we have on this team. Keep this up Max as i tried this about 6 months back. I'll be in on it. Did the draft already happen or do you have to do that before the season starts? Let us know of a few free agents out there! Good stuff!

I chose to. It's more fun that way, with a challenge. Very Happy

I had to take Vanderjerk, for comedic value! Plus, I can blame him when we lose games by 3.

When we get to cuts, I might ask you folks for help. No burning.

Thanks Simmons. No draft, the season starts with training camp and the pre-season. I don't want to pick up any free agents this season - I want to see how we go with this team, probably get the #1 pick, and look at maybe Brian Brohm out of Louisville for our QB of the future. Or something like that. Thanks again!

Well, I'll keep you guys updated with information, and do a recap of each game (maybe with pictures, too!).

Kevin Jones rushes for 237 yards in LA home opener; Pirates lose, 42-17

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Not a great start for the Los Angeles Pirates franchise.

They went 0-4 in the pre-season, and still haven't won a game in their history as they lost to the Detroit Lions, 42-17. It's bad enough losing by that much to Indy, or Chicago - but not to the Lions. (Sorry, Robert.)

Mike McMahon faced his old team, and didn't play that horribly. He went 20 of 35 for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns - really not that horrible, surprisingly. The running game didn't go so well for the Pirates, with Corey Dillon rushing for 27 yards on 15 attempts. Eugh.

The wide receiver core was a pleasant surprise, with no drops, and 6 guys having multiple catches - Antonio Bryant led LA with 5 grabs, while tight end Doug Jolley and fullback Fred McCracy had touchdown receptions.

LA's rushing defense was less successful, allowing Kevin Jones to rush for 237 yards and 2 touchdowns on 28 carries. Yeah... I think I'm going to change the sliders around a bit. That's a bit unrealistic, even for us.

Los Angeles travels to Denver next week to face the Broncos. Oh dear.

Pirates keep it close, two pick sixes give Denver 41-21 victory

DENVER (AP) -- On the plus side, we kept it close for the majority of the game.

But two interceptions returned for touchdowns in the fourth quarter gave Denver a 41-21 victory over Los Angeles in the Pirates' first divisional game. It was not surprising that LA lost - far from it. It was closer than coach Max expected.

"Much closer," said Max, continuing a sentence he didn't even know existed. "I mean, we were doing really well when it was 21-13 at the beginning of the fourth, but I'm happy with a 20 point loss to the Broncos. I was expecting a 40 point demolition, so the team's performing well above my expectations.

The loss puts Los Angeles at 0-2, as the Pirates host the Browns next week. Hey, a possible win!

Hitting rock bottom; Pirates give up 38 straight in loss to Browns

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Hey, we were leading at one point!

The Pirates led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, but 38 straight points from Cleveland gave the Browns a 38-3 victory in Week 3 of the 2007 NFL season. Jamal Lewis rushed for 3 touchdowns and rookie Brady Quinn had 2 touchdown passes in the win.

Mike McMahon performed horribly, having a 29.3 QB rating in going 14 of 35 for 149 yards and 2 interceptions. Corey Dillon had 24 yards on 18 attempts, although McMahon ran for 20 yards on 3 rushes, which isn't so horrible.

Los Angeles faces the Miami Dolphins next week, in Florida. Even with the lack of quality in the Dolphins team, I'm sure we'll get threashed. Stupid team.

VICTORY!!!

MIAMI (AP) -- The roster changes had nothing to do with it.

The Dolphins had Daunte Culpepper, because I didn't change it on the original roster - although EA really should have. And Ronnie Brown was out with a torn groin so rookie Lorenzo Booker was playing. Obviously, this had nothing to do with Los Angeles winning their first game never. Nothing. Obviously.

But, yes, we won! Holy cow! It was 29-24, with the Fins making things respectable at the end with a Culpepper rushing TD with 8 seconds left. But apart from that, it was all Pirates, as a defensive touchdown by DeMario Minter and a 36 yard run by Darius Walker were the big plays LA needed to get the win.

Marcus Vick was injured for 3 weeks, as a dog pulled his groin.

We have a bye next week, before facing the Super Chargers.

Good to be hilarious.

At least in the most recent game it was Miami being taken out to the woodshed.

A bit of a change from last week - Super Chargers crush Pirates, 56-7

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Suffice to say that having a 149.3 QB rating gives you a reasonable chance of winning.

Philip Rivers went 10 of 15 for 199 yards and 4 touchdowns as San Diego crushed Los Angeles, 56-7. The Chargers scored 42 straight points in the first half, while it took the Pirates until there was 30 seconds left in the third quarter to score.

LaDainian Tomlinson didn't do as well as some players have against LA, if you look at it in one way, at least. He only (only?!?) had a 5.8 ypc, rushing 33 times for 192 yards and 3 tocuhdowns. So that was nice.

The Pirates host the Chiefs next week. Hey, they're not that great... maybe we'll only lose by 20.

SAN DIEGO 56, LOS ANGELES 7
First quarter
SD: Rivers to Neal 4 pass (Kaeding kick), 5:36
SD: Tomlinson 1 run (Kaeding kick), 4:42

Pirates to start Henson vs Chiefs

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- In an attempt to kick-start their troubled offense, the Los Angeles Pirates are replacing their starting quarterback Mike McMahon with backup Drew Henson for their Week 7 contest, where they will host the Kansas City Chiefs.

"I thought it was a good time for Henson to get his chance at the starting job," said coach Max. "Of course, the poll results had something to do with it, but I'm also sick of [Mike] McMahon throwing picks."

McMahon has 73 SPD while Henson has 60, but Henson has 91 THP compared to McMahon's 86 (they both have the same THA, at 77).

So much for the Henson experiment; 3 picks cause 31-10 KC victory

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Once again, we led early.

Once again, they scored late.

A 28 point second half gave Kansas City a 31-10 victory over Los Angeles. The Pirates started backup quarterback Drew Henson, in an attempt to jump-start their poor offense. It worked early, but Henson threw 3 picks in the last 3 minutes of the game, including one returned for a TD, to ruin it.

Corey Dillon finally got things going alright, having a 5.0 ypc in rushing 17 times for 86 yards. Although, the majority of those yards were gained on a 54 yard gallop in the second quarter. His counterpart, Larry Johnson, had 21 carries for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Los Angeles travels to Tennessee to face the Titans next week.
