| The two Mr. Bs are quite similar in more ways than their Double-B names.
One is a great player and the other a great coach, each arguably the best of their generation and one of the best ever in their occupations. Each has a poor public image and a poor relationship with the media, and thus, by extension, with many fans not in their home towns. Both could care less about what you and I think about them. Both are willing to do anything to make them the greatest. They have significant talent and accomplishment to be recognized as the best of their generation without cheating, but both felt the need to cheat to get a bigger edge.
How long before the sports community, the media and fans generally come to view Belicheck as the same kind of pariah as Bonds?

| I think they kind of do already. You said yourself, he has a lot of respect as a coach, but not so much as a human being. I think that's about how the world views Bonds as well. I despise the man as a human, but there's no denying that he's got talent. | |

| Rather than start a new thread I thought I would jump no this one. As a Pats fan I have read a lot of crap this last week but there was an article I read this morning that got me thinking (sorry I haven't a link to the article I can't find it) about the taking away of a first round draft pick.
The article implied that the players union was unhappy as there will only be 31 First Round picks and as the money is slotted for 32 picks this causes the union a problem. The article also went on about the fact that there will be one college player missing out now but that is a different (stupid) argument.
So do you think the players union have a point, or will the Raiders the team having the 1st pick have to pay the money for the 32nd pick to their first pick of the 2nd round.

| The first pick of the 2nd round is the 32nd pick. Someone is complaining about having to pay #32 money for #32?
Get bent, the Raiders. | |

| I would side with the players union on this. The union is just doing there job and there's no reason the players should be punished for something Bellicheck did. | |

| I think meathorse has a point. No matter where the 32nd pick falls in the draft, it's still the 32nd pick, and they get 32nd pick money.
Maybe the NFL could hold a lottery for New England's stripped picks, to keep the numbers even.
(If - if, ha - if the Patriots make the playoffs, how much is losing their first round draft pick really going to hurt them anyway? Why not just give Bellicheck a noogie and say "Oh, you crazy kid! Don't do that again!")

| Its not a case of 32nd pick money, there are different rules for first round picks about the length of deals they can sign. I think (not positive) that second round picks are restricted to 4 year deals, and first round picks are not. | |

| Then it would still kind of work out, since the Raiders probably don't have much in the way of cap room anyway, considering how much they paid that one guy they bought that one time. | |

Oh really? I didn't know that! Hm... that really doesn't change too much. Why let some chode have a free pass just because you don't want to mess up your nice organized draft system? Bah. Poor 2.1 can cry about it all he wants. He can kiss my ass. I'm still firm. Continue getting bent! EDIT: I failed to take into account what the source of this complaint was... the players union is supposed to cry about everything. They can get extra bent.

| I'm a little suprised there is not more outrage about this. I think Bill should have been suspended for a couple of games. | |
