| Fuck Who's Now. For those who may not know... ESPN has created a new segment within SportsCenter. It features a 32 man bracket of assorted athletes competing to find out "who is the most now?" A reasonable man may ask "What the hell does that mean?" We'll start with an example... a round 1 matchup in the Muhammed Ali division featured Peyton Manning vs Amanda Beard. Amanda is an Olympic gold medalist swimmer if you were wondering. So there it is. Peyton vs Amanda. That's it. That's all there is. They don't have to race or play ping-pong or Scrabble or anything. It's like a joke without a punchline. Peyton Manning vs Amanda Beard in a match of absolutely nothing. Peyton won of course, he's the king of whatever. Dumb dumb dumb. I can't watch SC anymore until this is over. EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who's_Now | |

| Completely agree with you meat horse.
I think this is the biggest waste of time that ESPN has come up with yet. It's a stupid popularity contest that has almost nothing to do with how these athletes perform on the field.
I talked about it a bit in Episode 13 of my show. I said that it was evidence of two things: 1) SportsCenter is too long, should go back to being a half hour show and 2) July is the worst month in the sports calendar year. No football news to speak of and the only sport out there is baseball and the WNBA.....ugh. They have nothing else to fill the time with.
I too cannot wait for this garbage to be over with. Hopefully they wrap this up next week when training camps get under way.

| Sounds like fun I never get these things, I am guessing here but do you have to phone a premium rate number to raise funds for ESPN? Every year over here we have a Sports Personality of the Year at Christmas. It used to be quite good (then the BBC lost all the rights to show most sports so it contained minimal footage) and was voted on by journalists and the such like. These days it is voted by Joe Public and is effectively a Who's Now contest with our friend Beckham in the top 3 every year... | |

| Well right now there is ALMOST NOTHING going on in sports. yea you have baseball games everyday, but that doesn't take up an hour show. so they have to do some little stupid thing that takes up time
Just remember last year 50 states in 50 days thing. just what I wanted to watch

| I remember that, but I found that a lot more interesting than I find this What's Now crap. At least with the 50 states in 50 days there was some mystery as to where in the state they would end up or what odd/random sport that community took part in etc. It was an interesting idea at least. This on the other hand is just a complete waste of time. Nothing relevant taking place here at all, just ESPN filling time that nothing else can fill right now. I shudder the think how much worse things could be if the Benoit and Michael Vick situations hadn't happened. Then what they hell would they talk about? | |

| I don't even watch sportscenter outside of football season and draft time. With Baseball Tonite and NFL Live, ESPN has inadvertantly weakened the Sporstcenter show. | |

| Excellent point Coop.
I think SportsCenter would be a lot more watchable right now if NFL Live was suspended until training camp started like it used to be. Then they could do more "cold hard facts" or whatever the hell they do when they have an anchor and an analyst spotlight a sport for five minutes. They could a couple of segments a night on that and give a break to the monotony of all the baseball or extended golf coverage.

What a fantastic sentence to take out of context! Maybe I'll make it my forum sig and put your name under it I enjoyed the 50 states in 50 days thing. Can't remember a bit of it, just that it was not a bad thing. I'm not sure NFL Live/Baseball Tonight takes anything away from SC. It's not like they actually save anything for the specialty shows. Same stuff is just repeated.

| Wow! You're right!
If anyone read those statements by themselves that could get pretty ugly.
Go ahead and make it your sig over on the RARN boards, should raise some eyebrows.
Second thought, scratch that. Having my name in it, might get you into trouble.
