Another thread brought up some hate for the MNF crew. I'd like to expand.

Who's your least favorite guy in the booth? Who makes you want to watch a different game when you hear their voice?

Phil Simms for me! He says things somewhat frequently that are just flat out wrong. About stats, about players, about what happened on the last play. ... not that I have any specific examples or anything...

This doesn't have to be a bad thread... if you've got an unhealthy love of someone too, bring that on.

My least favorite broadcaster these days is John Madden. I think he is over the hill as far as broadcasting goes. The spoof that Frank Caliendo does of him is not far off the mark at all and that's bad. So he is my least favorite for color, my least favorite play-by-play guy is Joe "my $hit don't stink" Buck. He is a pompus ass who ego is unreal. And with football regular season and baseball post-season coinciding with one another, we are about to be oversaturated with him and I am not looking forward to it.

My favorite broadcaster would have to be Dick Vermiel or Moose Johnston for color and Dick Stockton or Brad Nessler for play-by-play. I think Brent Musberger is awesome as well.

Joe Buck is better than most broadcasters could dream of ever becoming. He isn't his dad but he's really good. He brings a sense of humor that is lacking in other broadcasts.

I agree about Phil Simms....annoying.

Al Michaels is awful anymore too. I think one that is underrated is Dan Dierdorf.

My least favorite is probably gonna be Jaworski.

I kind of like John Madden. He's not particularly fabulous as a broadcaster, but he still has huge entertainment value. He generally sounds like he's been drinking, rather heavily, and says some really off-the-wall things. Or else really obvious things. When things are slow, that's great.

"Now if he gets tackled short of the first down marker, they won't have the first down to work with..."

Thanks for that John.

Madden sucks, Simms sucks, Buck sucks etc....

Aikman and Collinsworth are A+ in my book. They understand the flow of the game and pick out defensive shifts and rolling man to zone coverages. Jaworski is pretty solid as well.

IMO, Joe Buck is trash, Kornheiser is a loser, Madden needs to retire, Collinsworth needs to let his hatred of the 49ers go already.

I like Stockton and Jaws, both are very knowledgeable I just wouldn't let Jaws call any Eagle games...

Since they let Dierdorf go the booth has hit rock bottom.

Joe Buck is horrible for anything accept copious amounts of caffeinated rambling. Whoever gave that man a microphone and told him to talk into it should be beaten.

I have to say that I have a respect for Collinsworth as a broadcaster that I never had for him when he was a Bengal.

Dierdorf has him moments, I can tolerate him. I like Aikman too. Moose is good, though i could do without Siragusa and his sideline reporting.

I really can't think of a time that I'm going to need to know what kind of cheese they use for nachos in Green Bay Tony, but thanks. Also, I can also do without using the stagehands you pull in front of the camera to demostrate things for us. Those guys look horrified half the time and its really awkward.

Madden, Siragusa, Joe Buck make the "worst" list. I also love Gus Johnson and an announcer, he could make table tennis sound epic with how excited he gets sometimes. He's fun to listen to.

Ha!
I used to dislike Madden, but for every silly obvious thing he says, there's something generally insightful to go with it.

Madden is just a shell of his former self, his mumblings drive me up a freaking wall, I just can't listen to him anymore.

I was watching my 49er/Bronco game on Monday and if I had $$$ I would have kicked the hell out of my TV listening to Kornheiser make it all about him, the guy has no real football knowledge and he kept on and on about Nolan being 11th best dressed yet he wasn't wearing the suit that he so wanted to wear and I kept screaming at the TV that Nolan wasn't allowed to wear a suit on any preseason games only the 8 home games, Tony needs to be edumacated(I am a very good speller) before going into the booth.

While I'm venting here...sorry...Jerry Rice being in the booth drove me up a wall too, I mean ok you were possibly the greatest WR ever but you're retired and your voice is not a speaking or announcing kinda of voice so SHUT THE HELL UP JERRY...I didn't want to see his records and hear the accolades again, this is about the 2007 team damn it.

ps and no this isn't PMS..really.....no really it isn't...

Sweets, call me a Tony Kornheiser apologist, but I'm pretty sure he is told to do exactly what he does on the air. From what I've heard, Joe Theismann was told he had to go because he talked about football when they would come back from a break. ESPN sucks.

Ryan, that may very well be true but I honestly think that he had no clue as to why Nolan wasn't wearing a suit, I also understand that they brought him in for whatever the hell he's doing, but it's NOT WORKING, he should go back to PTI where I loved him and his partner.

I never enjoy Theismann and I'm glad his gone. I agree ESPN does suck the big one.

I actually really liked Sterling Sharpe when he spoke, someone needs to get a hold of him again.

ESPN should bring in Caliendo to do his madden impression during a Packers MNF game. It is hilarious how dead on he is, especially the whole bit about Favre and then stuffing a chicken in a turkey into a duck.

I turned on ESPN radio one day and it was Caliendo in the middle of his bit on Favre being the greatest, and I didn't know that it wasn't madden himself until the segment was over and caliendo started talking normally.

Collinsworth is a cry baby. Tirico is irrelevant. Jaws is awful. Al Michaels is a has been. Madden's stock is down since he left Pat. Joe Buck is underrated (compared to the opinions on this board...he's actually regarded as a great broadcaster elsewhere but keep in mind Chicago fans mostly hate him anyways). Dierdorf is VERY underappreciated, he was outstanding. Aikman is good. Nessler is great. Chris Berman is so non-entertaining anymore that it hurts. Jim Nantz is a poor man's Bob Costas without any sort of appeal to humans, the guy is a robot. Dick Stockton is so-so. Anyone on the Best Damn Sports Show is terrible. Rachel Nichols is my future wife though. She doesn't know that yet and apparently she's married right now, but someday...

I don't hate him because I'm from Chicago, I don't how you came to that conclusion by the way, I hate him because he has this "holier than thou" attitude about him. He also has a way, for me anyway, of sucking the life out of a game because he sounds bored half the time. Maybe it's just how is voice always kind of sounds monotone to me. I could give a damn he's from St. Louis, the guy bores me.

And the fact that he is regarded as a GREAT broadcaster has always made me scratch my head.

But I get to kickoff my regular season with the guy and judging from all the 3:15 starts for the Bears this year, probably a few more times after that too.

Yay. Sad

Oh, fun. My turn.

Collinsworth is one of the most knowledgeable and best color guys right now. Bryant Gumbel is unlistenable. Greg Gumbel surprisingly has slowly worked his way up to being one of the better PBPers right now. Tirico is irrelevant unless its PGA or NBA, then I like. Jaws gets an incomplete from me because I haven't heard enough from him during a game yet. Al Michaels is a has been, but in today's saturation of sportscasting is better than most. Madden's stock went up since he joined Michaels. Joe Buck does souns monotone and just loud after awhile. I always feel like I have to turn down my TV. And he's way too biased when he calls games. If you listen to him, he always has a set personal agenda for the game, horrible. Dierdorf is OK. Dick Enberg was great, now can't seem to keep up. Aikman is pretty good. Nessler is UNAPPRECIATED. He's about 25 times the Football PBP man Joe Buck is. It's an absolute shame his last name isn't Buck, Caray, or Gumbel. Chris Berman is so non-entertaining anymore that it hurts. Jim Nantz is a poor man's Bob Costas without any sort of appeal to humans, the guy is a robot, but does have gay tendencies through out a broadcast. Dick Stockton is solid. Anyone on the Best Damn Sports Show is terrible. Rachel Nichols is CPH's future wife though. She doesn't know that yet and apparently she's married right now, but someday...

Thanks for reminding me about him. He keeps up just fine...esp. with viagra so easy to buy these days--er, he does a great job broadcasting still esp. with today's crapshoot of broadcasters.

And about Joe Buck:
Every person I've ever met who is from Chicago or loves any Chicago team seems to hate Joe Buck. I mean they have 5 or 6 groups on Facebook that are Anti-Joe Buck groups. That's where I get it from, Larry. I have no idea if it's a St. Louis thing, or if it's because he was especially harsh on criticism of the Bears, White Sox or Cubs at one point in his career--I know Chicago fans never forget. :) They never let anyone else forget that they don't forget either! But I will agree that he is better in baseball than football, but Al Michaels couldn't hold his microphone still. And not because it's too heavy or anything...because that was a metaphore/joke that Joe is way better...ok, you got that?

And I'm not putting Chicago fans down. Good lord, I would never want to experiance the Dyer wrath of saying anything like that. I come in peace. :)

Yea, that's true, but I'm pretty damn good about putting my biases aside. I'm talking about 32 NFL teams this month as if I want them all to get their shit figured out.

The thing with Buck for Chiacgo fans is when he does a Cubs game nationally. It is a lot of non-stop jabbing here and there. I don't even notice anymore. I like him doing baseball. It's his football announcing that kills me. He just doesn't work for me in that game. He could do baseball all year long and I'd be pretty happy with it. You like his sarcasm and jokes, but I think you are treated to that much more in the non-nationally aired events when you watch your Cardinals. A lot of his good stuff doesn't always get told nationally. Here's another school of thought. I think he tries to call a football game like a baseball game. There isn't as much down time so Joe needs to stay the hell out out the way inbetween plays more. And again, he does bring this agenda for a lot of games he calls. The Randy Moss thing in particular pissed me off. He goes crazy on Moss for PRETENDING to moon the fans. It's not like he did it. And what does Buck do? Rips Moss the entire time basically yelling for about 5 minutes about how that's the worse thing he's ever seen. Buck doesn't like Moss. If someone else had done it, who knows, he might have chuckled and said something like "I don't condone that and I wouldn't try that, but that was different" or some other sarcastic remark, but no. And the thing that kills me about it is that Joe doesn't tell anyone the full monty...err story behind why Moss did that. Visiting buses over history leave Green Bay to a line of fans who actually do moon the players as the bus makes its way out of town. This happened to the Vikings last time and Moss was having some fun back at the crowd. A lot of people in Green Bay actually thought it was kind of funny in hindsight (no one is laughing ever when Minnesota scores on Green Bay). I even think, and I can't remember for sure, Favre said something about it and laughed. But see, this is Joe Buck standing on his soap box only telling the part of the story he wants to tell you and not all sides. He's no dummy. He KNEW this happened in Green Bay, but wanted to paint his own picture so his stupid ass commentary could be played with that highlight. I hate JOE BUCK when it comes to my NFL.

And, actually, Al Michaels could call a football game blindfolded better than Joe Buck.

Buck is at his best when he does FSN Midwest games for the Cardinals. No doubt about it. So maybe that's why I like him so much. He's more relaxed on there.

I've never seen him take cheap shots at the Cubs, I've actually seen him be fair and unbiased with the Cubs. I've even heard him kiss the city of Chicago's ass on numerous occasions. I think Cubs fans are just way too sensitive. If an announcer doesn't talk about how much he loves Wrigley Field and talks about how much the Cubs "deserve" a World Series than he's an enemy all of the sudden. He even talked about how other teams in the Central should be worried about the Cubs in the playoffs last year when the Cubs were sitting around watching at home and they had just hired Piniella and were in the running for Soriano.

I remember the Moss thing. He might have overreacted but that's not something you see a lot from professional sports figures. So what if the fans did it to the Vikings? I'm not excusing the Packers fans behavior but you see fans do lots of things to players all the time. And yeah, Moss put himself in a situation where he's not going to get the benefit of the doubt when he does something like that.

But Moss didn't actually do it. he just pretended. Buck needs to get the hell off of his high horse.

As for Buck and the Cubs thing. Like I said, I don't really notice anymore. It was more between 02-04 when I noticed it.
