| Just checked out the results of the 1st round of the I-AA playoffs and I just found what I consider to be proof that a playoff system is needed in "Big College" football.
The No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the country both lost their 1st round matchups and No. 1 Northern Iowa nearly lost as well. And in the case of No. 2 McNeese State, they were blown out 44-15 by No. 14 Eastern Washington at home. And last year's champion Appalachian State held off James Madison to advance to the second round further defending their crown. If they were going by D-I's system they wouldn't have that chance.
I'll make this argument until I'm blue in the face, but the playoff system will not only help by leaps and bounds to crown a proper champion, but would also make for more exciting football. Three of the eight games played this weekend were decided by three points or less. | |
